Contract Manufacturing

heat treatment

Heavy-duty welded structures require professional heat treatment after welding. We provide stress relieving heat treatment, normalizing, and other processes on a contract basis for components weighing up to 40 metric tons and at temperatures up to 1050 °C. The facility includes what is likely one of the largest cooling tanks in Europe.

Plant capacity

Quenching of large components weighing up to 40 metric tons

The facility is designed for heat treatments up to 1050 °C. Components weighing up to 40 metric tons can be treated in the working chamber and, depending on the process, cooled at defined cooling rates.

Operating temperature and cooling rate

The maximum operating temperature is 1050 °C; for holding times of less than one hour, temperatures of approximately 1070 °C are possible for short periods. A component with a wall thickness of 50 mm can cool from 900 °C to room temperature at a rate of approximately 200 °C per minute in the polymer quenching tank. Depending on the material, intermittent quenching, accelerated air cooling, static air cooling, and controlled furnace cooling are also available.

About WOLF

Experience in equipment manufacturing since 1952

Since 1952, we have been manufacturing pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and columns from carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and clad materials in accordance with ASME, EN 13445, and AD 2000. Heat treatment has been part of our craft from the very beginning. This knowledge, gained from our own equipment manufacturing, is incorporated into every contract annealing job.

Please briefly describe the material, the component dimensions, and the desired treatment result. Your inquiry will be sent directly to our heat treatment team via the contact form. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Review and Documentation

In-house quality assurance (QA)

Our quality assurance team oversees the in-house heat treatment process and defines the required tests for each order. Every annealing cycle is recorded using a data logger. We prepare the documentation in accordance with regulations and supplementary customer specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions About Heat Treatment

Here we answer technical questions regarding plant capacity, process control, and documentation of heat treatment. For your specific component, please contact Volker Ermert at +49 2739 8970-61.

What information do you need to provide a quote? +

Component dimensions and weight, the desired process, the cooling strategy, as well as required process documentation and standards. A drawing or sketch will speed up processing.

What processes do you offer? +

Stress relieving heat treatment, normalizing, solution annealing, hardening and tempering, quenching and tempering, aging, soft annealing, and pearlite annealing. In addition, we offer special processes such as pendulum annealing and long-term annealing in accordance with your factory standards.

What are the maximum weights of components you can heat treat? +

Annealing batches and individual components up to 40 metric tons.

What cooling rates are possible? +

A component with a wall thickness of 50 mm cools at a rate of approximately 200 °C per minute. Available options include polymer quenching tanks, intermittent quenching, accelerated air cooling, still air, and controlled furnace cooling.
